Mission

The Brooks World Poverty Institute at the University of Manchester is an international centre of excellence established to create and share knowledge to end poverty in both North and South, and to shape policies that deliver real gains for people in poverty.

Background and Aims

The establishment of BWPI in 2006 reaffirms the University of Manchester's commitment to be an international research leader in poverty and poverty eradication across the world.

Research on poverty at Manchester stretches back over almost 200 years. BWPI provides the institutional framework to continue that tradition and meet the emerging research challenges of the 21st century.
