James Scott is a BWPI Research Fellow, working on trade, aid and alternative soures of development finance. He holds a BA in Physics and Philosoph from the University of Oxford, an MA in Development studies from the University of Manchester and a PhD in International Political Economy also from the University of Manchester. His principal research area is international trade, in particular developing countries' participation in the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and World Trade Organisation. Since completing his PhD he has also worked on a number of other areas, including overseas development assistance, intellectual property rights, social protection and emerging powers. |

| Current research areas | Developing countries in the GATT and WTO, and the prospects of the current round of WTO negotiations providing a pro-poor outcome. James is co-investigator on the BWPI research project examining the impact on poverty of emerging powers 'Beyond the BRICs'. He is also working on the Globalised System of Trade Preferences among Developing Countries (GSTP), the dynamics of South-South cooperation and the interaction between trade agreements within UNCTAD and the WTO. |
