Research area partnerships

BWPI's philosophy is to build strategic partnerships with researchers and practitioners around the world. Our international partnerships provide a crucial link between research and action and help BWPI to make a tangible contribution to ending global poverty.

BRAC Development Institute - Bangladesh

BWPI is collaborating on research into poverty and climate change in urban Bangladesh with the BRAC Development Institute in Bangladesh (alongside GURC - the Global Urban Research Centre and MARC - the Manchester Architecture Research Centre).

Chronic Poverty Research Centre - CPRC

BWPI is a leading partner of the Chronic Poverty Research Centre (CPRC), an international network of researchers funded by the UK's Department for International Development to create knowledge on chronic poverty in developing countries.

Zimbabwe support and collaboration with Reconstruction Research Group

BWPI supports the Zimbabwe Reconstruction Research Group at the University of Zimbabwe. We mounted the first academic conference in Zimbabwe on reconstruction (August 2009) and the country's Minister of Finance launched the BWPI report 'Moving forward in Zimbabwe' at the University of Manchester in December 2009.

The British Academy and the Université de Thiès in Senegal

BWPI is collaborating with the British Academy and the Université de Thiès in Senegal to develop an academic network between the UK and four different West African countries - Senegal, Benin, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast - and to benefit from the input of a diverse multinational team in the study of economic development of Africa.

RIMISP - the Latin American Center for Rural Development

Collaboration with Rimisp, the Latin American Center for Rural Development, currently focuses on two components: research into the links between poverty, growth and institutional change in rural Latin America; and an initiative to strengthen the capacity of Latin American postgraduate programmes training professionals working on rural development and poverty reduction.
